Chemical peels are performed at Bodian Dermatology & Medical Day Spa to reduce wrinkles and other signs of aging and to rejuvenate and refresh tired skin. Three different types of chemical skin peels are offered at our practice in Great Neck, New York, serving Long Island, Manhattan, Queens, and nearby areas. Facial chemical peels can turn back the clock by restoring a smooth, soft, youthful-looking glow.
Our dermatology practice offers chemical peels in three different strengths: light, medium, and deep. Dr. Adam Bodian and our staff will help you choose the type of chemical peel that is most appropriate for your individual needs.
Light chemical skin peels are an excellent solution for individuals with acne, dry skin, fine wrinkles and lines, or mild pigmentation problems. Light chemical peels are often made of glycolic acid, a substance that is found naturally in sugar cane. When this chemical solution is applied to the targeted treatment areas on the skin’s surface, it removes the outer layers of dead cells to reveal the new, smooth, and healthy layers underneath. Light facial chemical peels are very gentle, yet effective, at correcting mild skin conditions and creating a rejuvenated and refreshed look without any downtime.
Medium facial chemical peels are not as invasive as deep chemical peels, but they offer more dramatic results than light chemical peels. Medium peels are specially formulated for each individual, but the main ingredient is trichloroacetic acid.
Good candidates for medium chemical skin peels are individuals who wish to improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, age spots, blemishes, or discolored or sun-damaged skin. Patients with darker skin tones are often more suited for medium chemical peels than light chemical peels.
Once the medium chemical peel is applied to the surface of the skin, the outer layers are removed and the production of healthy new skin is encouraged. Medium chemical peels can achieve a more even skin tone and a smoother texture for individuals with mild-to-moderate conditions or imperfections.
A deep chemical peel is referred to as a "non-surgical face lift", due to the dramatic nature of the results it is able to achieve. Deep facial chemical peels can take years off an individual's appearance and can offer substantial improvement for damaged or aged skin.
Deep chemical skin peels can reduce or eliminate the deepest wrinkles on the face, including the lines that circle the eyes and run from the nose to the edges of the mouth. Although anesthesia is used so that the patient will not feel any discomfort during the procedure, the strength of the deep chemical peel generally requires the patient to rest for two to four weeks after the procedure in order to heal properly.
